Beit Shemesh Vocational Program

Our goal is to provide our students with the tools necessary to lead lives of meaning, respect, autonomy, and independence by giving them the opportunity to contribute to and integrate in the community.

The student is the center of the action. The staff provides him with all of the services necessary to advance our alumni beyond their disabilities, at the same time that we demonstrate our belief in his abilities.

We believe that an important component in the students’ quality of life is their ability to advocate for themselves. This principle forms the bases of our activities throughout the day.

Work levels:

1) Supported work: For alumni who are capable of going out to work in the regular workforce and to receive a salary.

2) Protected work: For alumni who are capable of working independently in the confines of the vocational center.

3) Treatment day center: The center provides an opportunity for personal expression to alumni with extensive disabilities, in the realms of work, personal skills, and recreation, keeping in mind the need for a range of activities over short periods of time.

Work support:

• In order to help our students reach their work potential in the treatment day center as well, they are provided with therapies such as occupational therapy and physical therapy.

• To enrich students’ social life, there are a number of clubs, including art, exercise, music, gardening, and home economics.

• As part of our role as a religious institution and as a component of our emphasis on integration in the community, during the day, there are Torah classes in Jewish law, Talmud, and Parshat HaShavua. In the kollel, the level of learning is high and students are tested at the end of the week on the material. In other groups, the material is conveyed in a manner appropriate for their level.

Population: Alumni with special needs from the Charedi and religious community, ages 21+.

Staff: Work counselors with training in the field, director of supported work, social worker, professional treatment staff for enrichment and recreation therapies, occupational therapist, physical therapist.

Hours: Sunday-Thursday, 7:30 AM- 5:00 PM.

Our mission is to advance our students’ quality of life to the greatest degree possible, to enable fulfillment of students’ potential through work appropriate to their needs and abilities, and to enhance their lives with meaning and content – all of this in a warm and personal environment. We pray that we will be G-d’s messengers in providing alumni with a home, light, and expression – the secrets to growth.
