Pool

What?

Water serves as an excellent medium of therapy. The density of water, hydrostatic pressure and even the water temperature provide powerful stimulation and ease body movement. Performing physical exercise in water helps strengthen muscles and enhances self-esteem. The sensation of warm water relaxes the person and allows him to move about more freely.

The pool serves children with disabilities as a place of therapeutic water activities. In the pool, students either have 1:1 hydrotherapy or participate in groups. They do exercise activities, water aerobics and learn how to swim, float and tread in the water. It's very important that this pool is in their school so that they don’t have to leave the premises. The hydrotherapists help the students with motor, emotional, and communication challenges as well as general healing.

Besides the actual therapeutic pool, there are shower rooms, dressing rooms and a first-aid room. There is a lift for physically handicapped children and adults, and of course all the therapeutic pool equipment that is needed.

Who?

The students of Seeach Sod from all the schools take shifts during the week at the pool.

Where?

The pool is located in the Maoz Yerushalayim school at Zaritsky 2, in Ramot. Another pool is going to be opening in the new Beit Metzudot building that is currently being constructed in Ramat Shlomo.

Some of the goals achieved in the pool are:

• Enjoyment

• Improved perception of body – as a result of being able to move about more freely inside water, children gain a better perception of their body image, which helps them improve their movements outside of the water as well.

• General muscle strengthening – the movements inside water and the phenomenon of water resistance helps strengthen both the upper and lower extremities.

• Improved balance

• Better control over the breathing process
